Buying a trained dog & what to look out for.

With the sale of pre-trained dogs on the rise, we’ve compiled a checklist to assist in finding the right dog & trainers for you.

• Has the company bred their pre-trained puppies? If so, mum & dad should be viewable & they should be able to explain why they paired the two. If not, how does the company or trainer source their puppies? Any reputable company should be able to give you all the required information into lineage.

• Do not, and we can’t stress this enough. Do not pay for a pre-trained dog you haven’t seen. This one sounds self explanatory but we’ve heard the stories.

• How many dogs are trained at once? What are they trained for? Are trainers formally qualified, well experienced or both?

• Are the company or trainers licensed to sell animals as pets? Those that are legitimate will gladly show their license to potential buyers.

• Are you invited to tour the premises? Where possible you should be able to see where & how pre-trained puppies live.

• How do they train the puppies? Positive or not?
