The Christmas period can be a stressful time for dogs. The chaos, new smells & new items can be overwhelming for your dog so we compiled a list of considerations you can make to keep them safe & relaxed.
Make sure toxic foods such as chocolate are stored out of reach of your dogs. Ensure they aren’t given morsels of food that may cause harm by guests.
Gradually introduce Christmas decorations. If your dog is showing any signs of fear towards any, make sure to desensitise to said item/s by giving your dog something tasty if they choose to investigate.
Give your dog somewhere quiet to rest while guests are over. A tasty, long lasting chew can help a dog relax and create positive associations with your guests. Ensure children are given instruction to leave dogs along while they are resting or sleeping.
Trips to Christmas markets? Tree light switch on events? Your dog doesn’t have to go everywhere with you, Give them the opportunity for quiet time while the humans sip mulled wine.
